Shelley Beer
Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture & Chinese Herbs)

When experience matters... in continuous clinical practice since 1989

Twenty years in clinical practice , including 16 years teaching Chinese Medicine at Victoria University, indicates not only a deep commitment to this ancient medical system but extensive experience. Three terms on the Chinese Medicine Registration Board is further proof of her dedication to her profession.

Shelley’s clinic practice name ‘to the point’ aptly expresses her modus operandi. She approaches each case by considering the health and well-being of the whole person. From this complex virtual road map she determines the cause and simplifies treatment to target the cause, not just treating symptoms. A treatment plan will be formulated using options chosen from the many different branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Shelley aims to educate and empower clients to support their own health choices- offering lifestyle recommendations, including the Chinese use of foods, and the wise use of exercise and breathing. She believes, that ultimately, the more one can control daily activities, the less reliant one can become on the practitioner.

Concurrent use of pharmaceutical drugs?- With increasing use of pharmaceuticals and people's desire to still use Chinese herbs, Shelley has dedicated her enquiry to ensure up to date knowledge of western drugs and likely interactions with Chinese herbs/foods. She is confident prescribing herbs safely with drugs, provided she knows all that you are taking.

Chinese dietary therapy- A diet can assist, OR hinder your health. Shelley explores your diet according to CM analysis and advises accordingly- what to avoid, what to include according to your individual CM diagnosis. Shelley keeps a specialised selection of grocery items at DHP that are compatible with particular CM diagnoses. In this way, she can assist your pathway to health.

Pediatric note- Shelley has worked with children over many years and found that children don't NEED needles. She offers a gentle approach that examines diet & lifestyle, supplemented with laser treatment in the clinic, then herbal granules if needed. Needles are reserved for acute serious conditions such as middle ear infection, high fever, and acute pain.

Updating special interests- Since undertaking hospital internship training in Guangzhou & Hanzhou in 2000 , specialising in Paediatrics, Dermatology, and Febrile diseases (viral/bacterial conditions), she has developed much more clinical expertise in these areas. She further consolidated her longstanding focus in Gynaecology. Over the previous 4 years, she has sought to further update her knowledge of the use of Chinese Medicine in treating infertility, and it's combined use with IVF- through self-study, professional seminars and international collaboration.
